VR cinema hall to open in Moscow

February 16, 2018

The first VR cinema hall in Russia will open at the Jewish Museum and Tolerance Centre on 21 February. “Moscow: The City of Education” is a mobile cinema that brings together 5D technology and virtual reality. It has 40 tours on four subjects: space exploration, environmental issues, the Silver Age and Moscow’s multi-confessional history.

VR-travellers will be able to visit the Cosmonaut Training Centre and Mission Control as well as the stages of the Chekhov Moscow Art Theatre and the Rakhmaninov Hall of the Moscow Conservatory. They will walk through the halls of the Tretyakov State Gallery and Moscow’s streets and park walkways.

Specialists will show visitors panoramic video technology. School directors will describe how 360° videos are used in classrooms; VR-guides will explain how these films are shot and experts will talk about the city projects where the technology is used.

The programme also includes the premiere of the film “Multi-confessional Moscow” and a small concert. Opera and pop singer Yevgeny Kungurov will perform several songs.

All educational VR-travels are created by the Moscow Open Education Institute at the initiative of the Department of Education.
