Two pump tracks will appear in the floodplain of the Chermyanka River, a tributary of the Yauza River. The construction of the tracks is a part of this territory comprehensive improvement program.

“To date, the sand base with the drainage system was made for the small track to protect it from accumulating water. Artificial obstacles and turns were formed using sand and gravel and each layer was separately tamped. Asphalt paving of the track has already begun. The foundation is being arranged on the large pump track; the sand that houses the drainage system is being compacted. Then the track elements will be formed and fine-grained asphalt laid,” said Sergey Melnikov, deputy head of the Moscow Department of Capital Repairs.

The tracks configuration will contribute to the maximum convenience of bicycle, skateboard, scooter, or roller skate riders. The tracks main feature is that they are loop shaped. Thus the rider will overcome obstacles without using pedals, moving by inertia. The tracks were designed by a professional team that specializes in creating such structures. “The route length of the large track will be almost 180 meters; it will have nine turning corners to change direction of movement and make faster run along the track. It can be used by professionals. The second pump track is shorter but no less interesting, because it is intended for beginners. The length of all route sections will be 47 meters with three turning corners,” added Sergey Melnikov.

To make the area around comfortable for local residents and athletes, benches will be installed along the pump tracks perimeter and observation decks will be arranged to watch the riders’ tricks. The areas of the large and small pump tracks will be 612 and 210 square meters, respectively.

The pump track is a place where everyone can try himself as an athlete. The site is designed not only for cyclists, but for skaters, rollerbladers, and scooter riders too. This kind of activity is an excellent cardio exercise and helps to be physically fit.

Earlier, Pyotr Biryukov, Deputy Moscow Mayor in the Moscow Government said that a new regional sports cluster will be constructed in the floodplain of the Chermyanka River — in the area from Musorgsky Street to Dezhnev Passage. “It is planned to equip sports grounds, including heated football field, and ice hockey rink, four professional tennis courts, skate park, and sites for workout, streetball and ping-pong,” he said.
