Tram parade and vintage car exhibition: Moscow Transport Day festive events

July 4

On 13 July, Moscow will celebrate the Moscow Transport Day for the third time. This year, the festival take place at five venues: in Zaryadye Park, at VDNKh, Chistoprudny Boulevard, Akademika Sakharova Prospekt and Trubnaya Square. They will be open 12:00 pm till 06:00 pm.

"Annually, Moscow hosts urban transport celebrations. This holiday unites both employees of transport enterprises and  passengers. In different parts of the city, Moscow residents and guests will have an opportunity to learn the history of urban transport or just have an insightful time," said Deputy Moscow Mayor, Head of the Department of Transport and Road Infrastructure Development Maxim Liksutov.

The tram parade is to be held for the second time this year. The first parade was held on 20 April, the day of the Moscow Tram's anniversary. It has attracted more than 250,000 spectators.

Like it was in April, vintage and present-day trams are to run from Shabolovka Street along Serpukhovsky and Danilovsky Val, Dubininskaya and Novokuznetskaya streets, Bolshoi Ustinsky Bridge,  Yauzsky and Pokrovsky boulevards. They start at 11:00 am. After the parade is over, they will run to Chistoprudny Boulevard hosting a tram exhibition 12:00 pm till 06:00 pm.

You will find the vintage car exhibition at the VDNKh's entrance. It will be open 12:00 pm till 06:00 pm. Visitors will view GAZ-12 ZIM (executive class model produced at the Gorkovsky plant from 1950 to 1959), GAZ-21I Volga (one of the most popular cars in the Soviet Union, produced from 1958 to 1962), and other cars. Besides, you will see a rare Moskvich-410model. This mid-sized off-road vehicle was produced for a very short period of time, from 1957 till 1958. They call it Soviet crossover.

9 through 31 July, Zaryadye Park will host a photo exhibition of vehicles produced at various times. Photos have been provided by the Main Archive Department of Moscow. Krasnaya Presnya and Festivalny parks also host their own photo exhibitions.

12:00 pm till 06:00 pm, extreme sports fans are invited to Akademika Sakharova Prospekt to enjoy a motofreestyle show. Kaskad aerobatic team of the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate will perform jumping with dangerous stunts.  Besides, you will also see the best cars from the fleets of car-sharing operators.

Trubnaya Square will offer quests to its guests. Participants will complete tasks related to transport. Games will be held from 12:00 pm till 06:00 pm.

At all five venues, the program will be accompanied by live music. The Music in the Metro project musicians will perform for festival guests. They will perform jazz and classical pieces, and meditative themes on Tibetan singing bowls and ethnic drums.

Moscow Transport Day will conclude with the night bike festival. Over 15,000 people are expected to participate in the race. Before the start, cyclists will be offered to join a flashmob. They will arrange themselves to form a bicycle.

The Moscow Transport Day is timed to the historical date: on 7 July 1872, the first horse-drawn tram, a predecessor of a modern tram, started to run. Since 2017, the holiday has been celebrated on the second Saturday of July. Last year, festive events were held at three venues — VDNKh, Park Pobedy and Sokolniki Park.
