'The Father', 'Krum' and 'Foreigner'. Sovremennik's new season performances

October 8, 2019

Galina Volchek, Sovremennik Theatre Art Director, held a traditional meeting of her group. People's Artist of Russia actor Sergei Garmash told about premieres expected in this season.

New performances

In January, Sovremennik will show the play 'The Father' staged by Israeli Director Yevgeny Aryeh. Based on the same-name play by the French playwright Florian Zeller, it is starring Sergei Garmash, Victoria Tolstoganova, Marina Khazova, Daria Belousova and Sergei Girin.

'We will know later who is to play one more part. It is going to be incognito until then,' said Sergei Garmash.

Aryeh has already collaborated with Sovremennik, staging performances 'Hidden Chance' and 'Enemies. A Love Story’. The latter has been running in the theatre for eight years.

The next premiere will be 'Krum' based on the play by the Israeli playwright Hanoch Levin, staged by young director Andrei Manik, a graduate student of GITIS (Director Department). Before that, Sovremennik's stage saw his 'Testimony' sketch to further become a full-fledged play. 'Krum' is scheduled for February. It will feature Yelena Kozina, Klavdiya Korshunova, Polina Rashkina, Alexander Khovansky and others.

'Foreigner' will run in March. Staged by director Aidar Zabbarov, it is based on the same-name novel by Sergei Dovlatov about the life of Russian immigrants in the USA. Dovlatov wrote it in New York in 1985. The cast has not been approved yet.

'Foreigner' is Zabbarov's second production at Sovremennik. His first play, 'Solovyov and Larionov', based on the novel by Yevgeny Vodolazkin, has been running on the Second Stage since last year.

'Those are performances that are already scheduled. But we're still having negotiations with directors who also have some proposals for our troupe and our theatre,' added Sergei Garmash.

In November, the actors will be touring Uzbekistan.

In Tashkent, Alisher Navoiy Theatre and Youth Theatre are going to see 'Three Sisters' by Galina Volchek and 'Neformat' — excerpts from different plays collected in one production.
