The first year of the Sports Weekend project has been nominated for the Eventiada IPRA GWA international award in the Best Community Relations category. Moscow’s Department of Sport and public services centres set up the project as part of the Healthy Moscow programme.

The contest involved projects from 14 countries. The winners will be announced at the award ceremony on 15 December.

Sports Weekend is a series of free classes in various sports. The project became popular with Moscow residents. It is in its second year now and all those who want to can take part in it online. At the weekend, the project’s YouTube channel offers yoga, pilates, circuit, functional and dancing exercises, Zumba and Nordic walking training with professional athletes, and Monday to Friday, it offers morning exercises. Sport and media stars, such as Alexei Yagudin, Anna Semenovich, Denis Semenikhin and others, regularly participate in Sports Weekend lectures and classes.

“The international nomination is an indicator of our productive work. People have got an opportunity to do sports free of charge thanks to the Sports Weekend. Our project develops the habit of a healthy lifestyle. It is important to take care of your condition especially now,” said Alexander Grebyonkin, Deputy Director of Moscow public services centres.

The first year of the Sports Weekend took place in Moscow parks. People had training in running, workouts, Nordic walking, cross-country, skateboarding and other sports.

Coaches have conducted 1,700 master classes attended by over 10,000 Moscow residents during the project’s offline period.  In the Southern Administrative District people applied for participation at the public services centres in a pilot scheme. Coaches shared training details, answered questions and helped people fill in sports preferences questionnaires. During this period, public services centres registered 7,000 people for training sessions and the Chertanovo Tsentralnoye, Orekhovo-Borisovo Severnoye and Orekhovo-Borisovo Yuzhnoye administrative areas turned to be the most active.

To date, over 10,000 subscribers have already joined training sessions at the project’s YouTube channel. Individual online advice is available on a par with regular weekend trainings with professional coaches. The first 200 applicants can register at the and receive individual advice via Zoom. Over 85,000 Moscow dwellers took part in the Sports Weekend online master classes.

Eventiada IPRA GWA is the highest media award in East Europe, the CIS and Middle Asia. It is a regional partner of the IPRA Golden World Awards — a global contest held by the International Public Relations Association since 1990.
