Session for Chinese schoolchildren at City of Discoveries online camp

The City of Discoveries educational and tourist project shows Moscow to foreign youngsters. Ninety schoolchildren from various Chinese regions aged between 14 and 16 will take part in the Nihao Moscow session of the Online Digital Camp scheduled for 20-27 August.

During the week, eight educational programmes will be presented to the participants online: Biotechnologies and Biomedicine, Humanitarian Technologies, Creative Industries, Transport and Space, Urban Studies, Digital Technologies and Telecommunications, Ecology and Energy. There will be interactive lessons with curating guides who can speak both Russian and Chinese, including sessions with teachers from the Pushkin State Russian Language Institute, project and research work and workshops on Russian artisanal crafts. For example, schoolchildren will be able to learn the Gzhel and Khokhloma painting technique and also how to paint a Matryoshka doll.

There will be online tours around various Moscow platforms partnering with the City of Discoveries, such as high-tech companies, medical clusters, industrial parks, universities, cultural and other landmarks: over 40 places in total. Tours given by employees of the Tretyakov Gallery, Zaryadye Park, the Ostankino Television Tower, the Museum of the Moscow Metro and other interesting places will allow Chinese youngsters to discover various sides of city life.

Thanks to the project’s innovative educational methodology the teenagers will be able to discover Moscow and also learn about the most prospective industries and receive useful recommendations on future professions.

During the session, the participants will develop research projects. Those with the best ones will receive an opportunity to visit the City of Discoveries’ venues in person once the restrictions are lifted.

Moscow’s cooperation with Chinese cities and regions in tourism is developing actively. During the spring and summer of this year, the Moscow Tourism Committee held several online conferences with specialised agencies from Chinese cities and megalopolises. They reached agreements to promote partnership, including in such fields as children’s tourism, international youth exchanges and joint projects to create an intercultural educational environment. Chinese schoolchildren’s participation in the online camp is the result of this partnership.

The Moscow Tourism Committee’s City of Discoveries educational and tourist project helps young people from all over the world discover what Moscow is like today. The project partners with over 50 Moscow venues. The Online Digital Сamp was established during this spring. Children from 45 Russian regions and other countries took part in the first two sessions.
