The ranks of participants in the Moscow Innovation Cluster, affiliated with the City Department of Entrepreneurship and Innovative Development, have soared almost 20-fold since early 2020.

In all, 19,000 organisations from 73 Russian regions have registered on the Moscow Innovation Cluster’s IT platform, Mayor Sergei Sobyanin wrote on his social media network account.

Alexei Fursin, Head of the City Department of Entrepreneurship and Innovative Development, explains: “The innovation cluster actively attracts participants thanks to numerous services and the Moscow Government’s support measures. Since early 2020, the number of participants has soared almost 20-fold, to more than 13,000. Besides, regional companies can join the Moscow Innovation Cluster as partners, and 5,900 organisations have done this since early 2020.”

Apart from special services, including a contract production exchange and a marketplace, the Moscow Innovation Cluster’s participants can obtain subsidies and grants from the municipal budget. For example, they can gain engineering subsidies, compensations of up to ten million roubles for repaying interest on loans used for production expansion operations. They can also be reimbursed for buying or leasing equipment, as well as obtain grants for implementing comprehensive innovative projects.

For instance, a cluster participant carrying out top-quality research in developing and controlling innovative and generic medications has received a subsidy from the Moscow Government. The company used the funding to buy new equipment, which helped boost its net profits by 25 percent.

Another company is developing a platform for the professional development of medical personnel. According to a corporate representative, participation in the cluster helps the project cooperate with state companies. The participants were unable to accomplish this task prior to joining the cluster. The firm is also planning to conduct pilot tests together with several Moscow medical institutions.

The Moscow Innovation Cluster is a platform for introducing innovations and expanding cooperation between major corporations, industrial enterprises, small and medium-sized businesses, education and research organisations, development institutions and the city. The online platform i.moscow provides the innovation system’s participants with opportunities for cooperation. The City Department of Information Technology facilitates its functional development.
