Polytechnic Museum and Sakharova Prospekt to be the new venues of the Circle of Light festival

From 20 to 24 September, Moscow will host the Circle of Light, the 9th Moscow International Festival. Enjoy great multimedia shows at nine Moscow venues, Grebnoi Canal, Teatralnaya Square, the Victory Museum on Poklonnaya Gora, Kolomenskoye Museum Reserve, Ostankino Park, Arbat Hall, Digital October Centre, Polytechnic Museum and Akademika Sakharova Prospekt, as reported by Alexander Gorbenko, Deputy Mayor in the Moscow Government, at a meeting of the Moscow Government Presidium.

Grebnoi Canal: fire burners and high-rise fireworks

The grand opening of the Festival will take place on Grebnoi Canal on 20 September, 08:30 pm till 09:30 pm. Guests will watch 'Seven Notes', a multimedia light show musical based on seven vivid life stories about human experiences well-known to everyone. The ceremony will conclude with 15-minute fireworks.

Watch the show both from the stands and from the channel's sandbar. A special 'Bridge' structure is to be erected over Grebnoi Canal to serve as a screen for video projection, with lighting equipment and fire burners installed. The work of the 'Bridge' will be synchronised with 200 fountains and 100 fire burners mounted on the water. The channel will also have several water fan screens, bringing the show closer to the audience.

On 21 and 22 September, 07:45 pm till 09:30 pm, Grebnoi Canal will have ‘Seven Notes' musical rerun. These days, fireworks show is to last five minutes.

On the Festival's closing day, on 24 September at 08:30 pm, 20-minute 'Unity Code' light show will take place. The Festival will conclude with a 10-minute musical pyrotechnic show with high-rise fireworks to have charges up to 400 mm.

Teatralnaya Square: famous characters on the facades of three buildings

From 20 to 24 September, 07:30 pm till 11:00 pm, Teatralnaya Square will host screenings of a five-minute light show novel dedicated to the Year of Theatre. Visitors will watch pieces from three classical works, with their characters projected on the buildings turning them into theatrical scenery.

The facades of the Bolshoi, the Maly and the Russian Academic Youth theatres will serve as a screen for the light shows. There will be a panoramic 270-degree projection on the three buildings and additional walls installed in front of the Bolshoi Theatre.

Besides, Teatralnaya Square will present the best light shows of the past years and the works by the finalists of Art Vision, the international video mapping contest in Classic category.

Kolomenskoye Museum Reserve: Alice's Adventures and animated puppets

During the Festival, Kolomenskoye Museum Reserve will turn into a Fairy-Tale Park covering 1.5 ha. Enjoy installations and a video mapping show on the buildings, watch 'Genie', 'Alice's Adventures' and 'Time Tamer' shows, meet the characters of children’s books and animated puppets, visit a shadow theatre and watch the dance of light men. Screenings will run from 07:30 pm till 11:00 pm.

Besides, on 22 September, at 08:00 pm, the Park will host Dmitry Malikov's concert with a light show. The programme will include songs and musical pieces by the People's Artist of Russia.

Ostankino Park and the Victory Museum: space distortion and black holes

From 20 to 24 September, 07:30 pm till 11:00 pm, Ostankino Park invites to watch a fantastic scientific show 'Geometry of Light'. Light and video projection installations are to interact with the Park's landscape and even distort space.

Besides, the Victory Museum on Poklonnaya Gora is to become the venue of the Circle of Light festival once again. The most interesting light novels of the past year and new projection shows will cycle on the facade. One of them is about space with its most mysterious and outstanding phenomena — black holes, gravitational waves, quasars and solar wind. Another show will tell about the multidimensional world of science.

On the Museum's facade, you will also watch the works by the finalists of Art Vision, the international video mapping contest in Modern category.

Polytechnic Museum: cutting-edge solutions on the upgraded facade

For the first time, the renovated Polytechnic Museum with become a Festival's venue, too. From 20 to 24 September, 07:30 pm till 11:00 pm, you are welcome to watch two multimedia shows about the history of the Polytechnic University and technological advances.

The audience will learn about the significant events of the Museum’s educational life starting from successful Polytechnic exhibition in 1872 until present, the activities of scientific laboratories, meetings with Vladimir Mayakovsky, Sergei Rachmaninoff and other prominent figures of Russian culture and art. Another show will tell about the technological advances, and the secrets of the Polytechnic Museum scheduled to open after restoration in 2020.

The best shows and experience of world experts

On 21 and 22 September, three festival venues (Teatralnaya Square, the Victory Museum on Poklonnaya Gora and Arbat Hall) will host Art Vision, a traditional international video mapping and VJing contest in Classic, Modern and VJing categories, with the chief artist of Channel One Dmitry Likin as the jury’s chairman.

On 21 and 22 September, 11:00 am till 05:00 pm, at the Digital October Centre, the world’s best lighting design and video projection experts will share their big project experience, talk about the pitfalls of light show arrangement, discuss technical innovations and current trends. The program includes master classes, panel discussions and lectures.
