This year, the North River Terminal piers that recently underwent a large-scale reconstruction, accepted about 700 thousand passengers. This was announced by Pyotr Biryukov, the Deputy Moscow Mayor for Housing and Communal Services and Landscaping.

"Since April 24, cruise and pleasure ships made more than 11 thousand approaches to piers of the North River Terminal and the total passenger traffic amounted to about 700 thousand people. Traditionally, the main traffic was made by pleasure routes, for example, on weekends, six motor ships depart from the piers every hour," he said.

In the course of the last year’s reconstruction of the North River Terminal, all 17 piers were renovated. 11 of them are intended for mooring cruise fleet ships, the rest — for parking pleasure boats.

Pyotr Biryukov added that specialists of the municipal economy complex made their best to complete the most difficult work on deepening and stabilizing the bottom, major repairs of the supporting wall of piers and staircases, within the shortest possible time. We also arranged a modern system of electrical and water supply for ships: the state-of-the-art equipment is capable of providing power supply to 24 vessels simultaneously. In addition, 13 watering points were installed here to replenish drinking water tanks.

As part of the North River Terminal renovation, the embankment was landscaped to become a favorite place for people’s leisurely walks.

"A small copy of the Moscow Canal — a kind of spring with models of floodgates and illumination along its entire length — was arranged on the embankment. Children and adults can launch boats, open and close the floodgates, and study the canal structure at the same time," Pyotr Biryukov said.

The large-scale reconstruction of the North River Terminal was completed last September. Specialists restored the original appearance of the building and returned it to its original function — to be a place of arrivals and departures for vessels. Now ships cruise from here to dozens of Russian cities, including St. Petersburg, Yaroslavl, Kazan and Nizhny Novgorod.
