Moscow modernized 36 embankments having a total length of 64.5 kilometers in the past 10 years. The routes along the banks of the Moskva River are getting more beautiful and more comfortable: they are acquiring pedestrian zones, observation decks, bicycle tracks, benches, new trees and shrubs.

“Today the city has an entire program to modernize the banks of the Moskva River and reservoirs, so our task is to fully implement it in the next four years,” said Deputy Mayor of Moscow Government on Housing, Utilities and Improvement Pyotr Biryukov

The very first modernized facility was Krymskaya Embankment, it became an extension of Pushkinskaya, Andreevskaya and Vorobyovskaya Embankments. A walking route appeared from Vorobyovy Gory and Gorky Park to the spit of Bolotny Island being about 12 kilometers long.

Some part of Yakimanskaya Embankment became completely pedestrian – from its intersection with 3-y Golutvinsky lane to Bolshaya Yakimanka street. This section became an organic extension of Krymskaya Embankment being completely closed to transport.

The width of the pedestrian zone within Yakimanskaya Embankment is over 15 meters. Besides, one may comfortably walk along the sidewalks from Patriarshy to Maly Kamenny Bridge towards Balchug, Bolshaya Polyanka or along Vodootvodny Canal.

Apart from Yakimanskaya, they have also modernized such embankments as Krasnopresnenskaya, Rostovskaya, Smolenskaya, Savvinskaya, Bolotnaya, Kotelnicheskaya, Goncharnaya, Luzhnetskaya, Prechistenskaya, Moskvoretskaya, and Andreevskaya.

Now the historical part of the city has a 19-kilometer pedestrian route from Taganka to Moscow-City. Ovchinnikovskaya and Ozerkovskaya Embankments were modernized in 2019. Outside the center, the embankment in Kapotnya was given a new look during the same year. A park associated with the Park of the 850th Anniversary of Moscow appeared there on the banks of the Moskva River.

This year, they have modernized four embankments of Balchug Island. A new look was given to Sofiyskaya, Raushskaya, Sadovnicheskaya, Kosmodamianskaya Embankments, as well as adjacent Sadovnicheskaya streets, 1-y and 2-y Raushsky, Faleevsky, Komissariatsky, and Sadovnichesky lanes. Almost 600 large trees and over 21 thousand shrubs will be planted there by the late autumn.

It is planned to modernize all the embankments in Moscow in the coming years. The banks of the Moskva River will turn into a continuous comfortable walking route.
