More than 6,000 Muscovites who have recovered from COVID-19 have donated blood plasma, including 12 percent who donated for the second time.

According to treatment protocols for hospitalised COVID-19 patients, plasma transfusions may be prescribed for patients in moderately serious and serious condition. Convalescent blood plasma transfusion, which is one of the efficient treatments for serious coronavirus patients, can be prescribed by the patient’s attending physician as part of combined therapy, if medically required. A plasma transfusion can reduce the chances of deterioration, when a pulmonary ventilator is required, by almost half, increasing the survival rate by 19 percent.

People 18 to 55 whose body weight is over 50 kg can donate convalescent blood plasma. Donors cannot have chronic conditions, HIV, hepatitis or syphilis.

Donors receive incentives in the amount of 5,000 roubles for 600 ml of blood plasma containing COVID-19 antibodies. Donors also receive a food allowance of 1,212 roubles.
