Online museum tours and opera performances: #Moscowwithyou project now available in English

July 10, 2020

The project #Moscowwithyou, launched by the Moscow Committee for Tourism, has become available in English. Now foreigners have an opportunity to explore Moscow, its leading museums, and significant cultural and exhibition projects.

“Since its launch, the project website has been visited about a million times. In total, more than 500 videos are published there: online excursions, workshops, lectures, theatrical performances and sketches, and much more. Several dozen tours from state and Moscow museums are already available in English,” said Deputy Moscow Mayor Natalya Sergunina.

Among the cultural venues that provide an English version of their online tours are the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, the VDNKh museums, the Museum of Cosmonautics, the Moscow Planetarium, the Jewish Museum and Tolerance Centre, the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art, the Moscow Zoo, and the Museum of Russian Impressionism.

More than 50 excursions are now available with English subtitles. This number will continue to grow with upcoming virtual tours of Moscow’s iconic places and the metro organised in collaboration with the Museum of Moscow. They will allow everyone to explore the city and learn interesting facts about one of the most beautiful metro systems in the world. Also the project site offers excursions in English, for example, a tour of the exhibition Russian Fairy Tale: From Vasnetsov to the Present from the Tretyakov Gallery and Missiles and How They Fly from the Museum of Cosmonautics, a general tour of the Moscow Zoo and tours of Moscow streets.

Apart from online excursions, now foreigners can watch recorded performances of the Great Moscow State Circus, as well as a selection of opera masterpieces from the Russian Society of Friends of the Salzburg Festival. The online platform #Moscowwithyou also includes videos of the project Moskvichi (Muscovites) which features ordinary people and their views of Moscow. In 10 stories, each of which is dedicated to one person of a specific profession, city residents share personal stories about Moscow.

A bright design with new projects and formats

More than 50 educational and cultural venues have joined the project #Moscowwithyou, such as the Tretyakov Gallery, the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, the Museum of Moscow, the Cosmonautics and Aviation Centre, the Slavic Script Centre, the Moscow Zoo and Moscow through the Eyes of an Engineer. Over 120 virtual tours were recorded specially for the project.

During the project, cycles of online meetings and interviews with stars took place. In June, a series of video interviews came out in which famous personalities talk about Moscow, their professions and new trends in a changing world. Among the participants were actress Ingeborga Dapkunaite, restaurateur Boris Zarkov, artist Aidan Salakhova, Director of the Tretyakov Gallery Zelfira Tregulova and producer Alexander Strizhenov.

In June, a new 12-episode series featured TV presenters such as Yury Nikolayev, Angelina Vovk, Alexei Lysenkov, Natasha Barbier, Tatyana Arno, Leonid Parfyonov, Andrei Bartenev, Alexander Tsypkin, Yevgenia Medvedeva and other stars who spoke about contemporary art, cooking, sports, repairs and other interesting and important topics.

Moreover, over 100 videos have already been published on the project page on TikTok (@discovermoscow.tiktok), including short videos about Moscow and announcements for interesting excursions. They have received more than 13 million views.
