October 9

Since last September 1.7 thousand new urban Wi-Fi hotspots appeared in the capital. This was announced by Natalia Sergunina, Deputy Moscow Mayor.

"Today the Moscow Wi-Fi network counts more than 21.5 thousand hotspots. Since last autumn, we increased their number in parks, cultural institutions, student dormitories and in central streets. It is especially convenient to use wireless Internet in the capital because it provides seamless connection: you can move around the city and connect to Wi-Fi during the day without re-authorization," noted Natalia Sergunina.

According to her, more than 600 cultural institutions are already equipped with free Wi-Fi. Hotspots are installed in the Pyotr Fomenko Workshop Moscow Theater, Moscow Drama Theater "MODERN", Moscow Children`s Musical Theater "Impromptu", “Community of Taganka Actors” theater, in libraries No. 29, 72, 88 and Serafimovich library No. 75, as well as in the children's library No. 35.

53 new hotspots to connect to wireless Internet appeared in the Garden Ring Museum, the Zelenograd Museum, the Tushino Exhibition Hall, in the Palace of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich Romanov in Kolomenskoye, as well as in the Fenix Club and the Moscow Directorate for the Development of Cultural Centers.

This year, the city's Wi-Fi network began operating in the Cherkizovsky Palace of Creativity for Children and Youth, the ‘Rodnik’ Children's Art School, the No. 100, Tabakov Children's Music School, the Kara Karaev Children's Music School, and in the Creative Lyceum, the Otradnoye Sports complex and the Moscow Basketball Academy (Olympic Reserve school No. 71). More than 70 hotspots provide Internet access here.

Today, free urban Wi-Fi is available in 167 buildings of 33 universities and colleges. About 12.7 thousand hotspots give students the opportunity to get ready for lectures and seminars, communicate with classmates and teachers, friends and families. Over the past year, 654 hotspots were installed in dormitories of the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, the Moscow Automobile and Road Construction State Technical University and the Moscow Power Engineering Institute.

Access to free Internet in the streets and in parks is provided by almost 4.7 thousand hotspots. Now you can connect to Wi-Fi in the streets of Meshchansky, Presnensky, Donskoy and Danilovsky Districts. The coverage area of the city network near the Moscow Zoo, on Pushkin Square, Strastnoy, Petrovsky and Rozhdestvensky Boulevards was expanded. Since last September, more than 700 new hotspots have been added to the streets.

There is a free Internet in 45 Moscow parks. Over the past year, 45 hotspots were installed in the park of the 50th Anniversary of October, the park of the Northern River Station, the Pechatniki park of technical sports, the park of the State Darwin Museum and in the Cherkizovsky Children’s Park.

Besides, urban high-speed Wi-Fi helps Moscow entrepreneurs, providing an opportunity to communicate with customers and solve other goals in free “Small Business of Moscow’ State Budgetary Institution coworking.

The first hotspots appeared in the capital eight years ago. To find out Wi-Fi coverage, use a special interactive map on

As it was noted in the Moscow Department of Information Technology, connections to the city network are mostly made in Tverskaya Street, Manezhnaya Square, Teatralny Proyezd, Arbat Street, as well as in the Sokolniki Park and Muzeon Parks, the Kolomenskoye open air museum, and in the Neskuchny Garden Park.

To connect to a network, select Moscow_WiFi_Free, complete identification in the browser using an account on or via SMS, and then click the "Log in to the Internet" button.

Thanks to a single Wi-Fi space, residents can use wireless Internet, moving around the city without re-authorization. However, the law requires that once every three months users must undergo re-identification.
