One and a half times more Moskva-2020 trains in the metro

July 16

Since January, the number of Moskva-2020 trains in the metro has increased by one and half times. Last year, 45 new trains began serving the metro line, and this year - another 24. Of these, 10 run on the Ring Line, due to which now only Moskva-2020 trains carry passengers here.

"The rates of the metro trains renewal in Moscow is the fastest in the world. In total, about 3,700 cars have been purchased since 2010. At the same time, our most modern Moskva-2020 train surpasses many world analogues with respect of comfort. The width of the doorway in the Moskva-2020 is up to 23 percent more than in trains manufactured by Siemens, Alstom, Hyundai, CAF. Only it has smoke detectors, interactive displays for navigation. Additionally, two climate control units with air disinfection operate in each car," Maxim Liksutov, the Deputy Moscow Mayor, Head of the city Department of Transport and Development of road transport Infrastructure, said.

The remaining 14 modern trains serve the Kaluzhsko-Rizhskaya line. On this line, the cars of the new series Moskva and Moskva-2020 make up almost 50 percent of the fleet. By the end of the year, they plan to launch another 20 trains. Also in the future, new trains will run on the Big Circle Line.

Advantages of the Moskva-2020 models

The Moskva-2020 trains are much more comfortable than the Rusich trains, which ran on the Circle Line until June, and older models on the orange line. In the last-gen trains, the doorways are expanded to 1600 millimeters, which allows passengers to enter the car and exit to the platform even more comfortably. In Rusich trains the width of the doors was 1200 millimeters, in the numbered ones - 1210 millimeters.

Passengers can move freely between the cars of Moskva-2020 due to the wide junctions. Between the seats there are USB connectors for charging gadgets. There are 320 such connectors in a seven-car train on the Circle Line, and 368 smartphones can be charged simultaneously in an eight-car train on the orange line.

Another difference between modern trains is that each car has two climate control units with air disinfection. In addition, Moskva-2020 is 15 percent quieter than its predecessors.

The capital's last-gen trains received the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2021 for the best design. The international jury unanimously gave the highest rating in the Trains and Planes categories.

The rolling stock of the Moscow metro is constantly being updated and is the fastest in the world. From 2010 to 2023, the Moscow metro will receive 4,549 cars. For comparison, the Hong Kong metro purchased 2,030 cars, London - 1,771 cars, New York - 918 cars during the same time. Moreover, in New York there was a break in updating trains from 2011 to 2018, and in London it continues from 2018.
