MUF Community Awards: winners of the Moscow Urban Forum Award

Within the framework of the Moscow Urban Forum, which takes place from July 1 to 4 in the Zaryadye Concert Hall, an award ceremony for the winners of the MUF Community Awards 2021 was held. The awards were given to urban communities and independent projects, private initiatives and startups that have made a significant contribution to the development of Moscow.

The awards were presented online for the first time. The ceremony was attended by Sergey Kuznetsov - the chief architect of Moscow, Evgeny Kozlov - the first Deputy Head of the Central Office of Mayor and the Moscow Government, Sergey Levkin - the Head of the Department of Urban Planning Policy, Dmitry Chuiko - the founder of the Whoosh electric scooter rental service, Arina Drobina - the director of Moscow Urban Fest, Sofia Trotsenko - the founder of the Vinzavod Center for Contemporary Art.

The best nominees were determined in 13 categories, including the new one - Together Against COVID-19. Initially, the experts formed a shortlist of 39 projects, after which an open vote began on the website, which took place from June 21 to June 30. 210 thousand citizens expressed their opinion.

Among the winners are the Northern River Station, the Fantastic Plastic exhibition project of the Moscow Design Museum, the Bukvodom cultural and educational space, the first interinstitutional design school for teenagers ‘Cascade. The Project as a Method’.

Charitable and social projects

The award in the Charitable and Social Projects category was received by the Second Wind non-profit organization. Its volunteers accept unnecessary things and transfer them for recycling or to people who find themselves in a difficult life situation.

Since 2015, the Second Wind has collected, redistributed and processed more than two thousand tons of textiles. Thanks to them, more than 50 thousand people from 20 regions of the country received assistance. More than 500 tons of items were sent for recycling.

The collection of unnecessary things takes place with the help of 800 own and partner containers that are installed in large shopping and business centers, public spaces and residential complexes.

Together Against COVID-19

The winner in the Together Against COVID-19 nomination was the You are not Alone charity event. Its concept is the collection of bags with food and personal supplies for the homeless. People leave such kits at bus stops, benches near their homes and in other places, from where they can be picked up by those who live on the street. The initiative of the Nochlezhka (homeless shelter) charity organization was picked up in many cities.

A Сity for Сhildren

The first in the City for Сhildren nomination was the interinstitutional independent project school ‘Cascade. The Project as a Method’ . Mentors strive to teach teenagers how to implement their projects - from ideas to physical implementation at art venues in Moscow.

Now the Moscow Museum is hosting an exhibition of the school, it will last until July 11. Also, the project of the students can be seen in the Voznesensky Center and the Triumph Gallery of Modern Art.

Urban Gastronomy

In the Urban Gastronomy category, an online store won, the distinctive feature of which is a fast delivery. The service operates in 14 cities of Russia, it employs 16 thousand people. Thanks to bicycle couriers, the load on the transport infrastructure is reduced.

The company estimated that only in March of this year, fast food deliveries economized citizens 200 years of life.

City Exhibitions

The best in the City Exhibitions category is an environmentally oriented Fantastic Plastic exhibition project of the Moscow Design Museum. The exhibition presents art objects made of recycled and reused plastic.

The project has been implemented since 2018, more than 40 foreign and Russian designers take part in it. Exhibitions were held in Nizhny Novgorod, Perm, Voronezh, Ufa, as well as in the capital's New Tretyakov Gallery. In May 2021, the exhibition was seen in the Austrian city of Graz - the UNESCO European design center.

City Media and Blogs

The first place in the Urban media and blogs nomination went to the entertainment and educational media in the Instagram moscow . The authors tell about the events in the capital, about the culture and people.

The media also has a Moscow Now telegram channel and a blog in TikTok - moscow.

Urban Technologies

In the Urban Technologies nomination, the system of people with dementia identification helptoreturnhome.rf became a winner. The project concept is that people with a mental illness wear thermal stickers with the inscription "Help to return home" and the number of the round-the-clock phone of the regional search team.

On the sticker there is a badge number, by which you can find out the last and first name of a person, as well as the phone number of a family member or guardian. It is planned that in the future such thermal stickers will be issued in the My Documents offices.

Urban Design

The Northern river station became the best in the Urban Design nomination. The building and the park around it were restored and opened to the public in 2021. The complex has been restored to its historical appearance.

In addition, river navigation has resumed after a 30-year break. All 17 berths of the Northern river station are open to ships and passengers, a barrier-free environment has been created for people with limited mobility.

Green City

The best in the Green City nomination became Anastasia Chizhevskaya's blog in TikTok @anastasia. chia. The author uses short videos to talk about an eco-friendly lifestyle, and this is interesting to more than 100 thousand people a day.

Anastasia teaches Russians to sort waste, understand greenwashing, and also talk about an eco-friendly lifestyle with their friends and family.

Cultural initiatives

A flash mob in social networks, Flowers for Doctors exhibition and a charity online auction (#tsvetyvracham)  were recognized as the best cultural initiatives. They were organized by the director of the Multimedia Art Museum Olga Sviblova.

During the flash mob, artists, adults and children posted paintings, photos, sculptures and videos with gratitude to the doctors. The museum selected the most interesting works and organized an exhibition of them, which was held from September 7 to November 15, 2020. In addition, the entrance to the Multimedia Art Museum for all doctors, health care workers and medical students has become forever free.

Educational and Awareness-Raising Initiatives

The Masters school won in the Educational and Awareness-Raising Initiatives nomination. This is a private educational project in the field of art, whose mission is to introduce the history of classical art and teach to understand modern art.

Sports and Wellness Projects

The mass city game ‘Running City’ won in the Sports and Wellness Projects nomination. This is a kind of combination of sports and excursions. Participants follow edutainment routes and at the same time compete, moving on foot, running, using public transport, bicycles, roller skates, scooters. The game provides a variety of routes that will suit people with different physical fitness.

Before the pandemic, the game started at the massed start sites. Since 2020, it has been adapted so as not to create crowds of people.

The sphere of entertainment and leisure

The Bukvodom cultural and educational public space has become the best in the field of entertainment and leisure. This is a platform with reading room, coworking, lecture hall, vegan cafe and shop that operates on the principle of zero waste.

Various events take place in the space located in the center of Sokolniki Park, this place is convenient for work, education, recreation and reading. 

The project pays a lot of attention to the environmental orientation. The team conducts green lecture course, eco-days and festivals, live broadcasts and online marathons.
