Moscow public Wi-Fi network expands beyond the Garden Ring

This year, Moscow public free Wi-Fi network has reached streets and squares beyond the Garden Ring. Users can now connect to Moscow_WiFi_Free on Kaluzhskaya Square and around five metro stations, including Novoslobodskaya, Kurskaya, Avtozavodskaya, Frunzenskaya and also Ulitsa 1905 Goda. Additionally, wireless internet coverage has been improved on 25 streets with an extra 324 hot spots. The city plans to install 578 more hot spots by the end of the year. The Wi-Fi speed is fast enough for using messengers and emails, watching online video and listening to music.

Specifically, the Wi-Fi coverage has been improved on Tverskaya Street, Tsvetnoi Boulevard and Arbat Street. There are no more blank spots where users could lose their connection.

“We will continue to enhance the public Wi-Fi inside the Garden Ring and cover some areas within the Third Ring Road too. Hot spots will spring up in some of the busiest streets, squares and near metro stations,” spokesperson for Moscow’s Department for Information Technology commented.

The department representative added that currently, network specialists are conducting radio planning and determining the best locations for new hot spots. Their total number will increase from 2,500 to 3,100 by the end of the year.

Streets where the Wi-Fi connection has been improved since the beginning of the year:

— Zatsepsky Val Street

— Valovaya Street

— Korovy Val Street

— Krymsky Val Street

— Zubovsky Boulevard

— Smolensky Boulevard

— Novinsky Boulevard

— Sadovaya-Kudrinskaya Street

— Gogolevsky Boulevard

— Nikitsky Boulevard

— Tverskoi Boulevard

— Petrovsky Boulevard

— Rozhdestvensky Boulevard

— Chistoprudny Boulevard

— Pokrovsky Boulevard

— Tverskaya Street

— Tsvetnoi Boulevard

— Arbat Street.

To connect to the free Wi-Fi network, select Moscow_WiFi_Free in the list of available networks, open your browser and log in by entering your mobile phone number and the code you will receive in an SMS message.

The network is available on more than 200 streets and in 24 parks. Each hot spot has a range of 50 metres. Switching between hot spots does not require any re-authorisation.
