This summer, Moscow was the Russian region, most frequently visited by foreign tourists. The ranking is based on a study of a popular map-making service. The main criterion was the number of foreign users who downloaded the service's maps of Russian cities from June 1 to August 31.

Compared to the last year, the three most popular tourist regions of Russia are still the same: St. Petersburg is the next after Moscow, with Kaliningrad region being the third. The Irkutsk region and the Republic of Buryatia take the 4th and 5th place.

Over the last year, 23.5 million tourists, including 5.5 million foreigners, visited Moscow. In the first half of 2019, the number of visitors to the Russian capital made up 11.5 million, which is 32.4 percent more than in the same period last year. Since 2010, the number of tourists has almost doubled. China, Germany, France, Italy and Israel tourists are the most frequent visitors to Moscow.

Given the growing interest of foreign tourists, the Moscow Government makes every effort for guests to feel comfortable. So, Chinese tourists enjoy now the official Moscow account in WeChat and Weibo.
