Metro updates navigation before opening 10 new Big Circle Line stations

November 20

The Moscow Metro is updating navigation before opening the Big Circle Line (BCL) section with10 stations. Over 30 thousand new metro diagrams in cars and at stations will make navigation easier. 59 thousand signs will be helping passengers at metro facilities and in trains.

Besides, installation of 918 lightboxes is underway in the area of the new section — they will help find exits, neighboring stations and ground transport stops.

"Moscow Mayor’s program of the metro development is a priority for us. Launching of the Big Circle Line new section is its important part. For the first time ever, such a large section will be put into operation. For its opening, we prepared 90 thousand navigation elements that will help passengers move easily around metro. On launch day, audio notifications in escalators and in train cars will inform passengers about opening of new stations. In addition, employees of the Passenger Mobility Center will help make new routes," said Maxim Liksutov, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport.

It is planned to open 10 stations (Terekhovo, Kuntsevskaya, Davydkovo, Aminevskaya, Michurinsky Prospekt, Prospekt Vernadskogo, Novatorskaya, Vorontsovskaya, Zyuzino, Kakhovskaya) in the near future. They are located on the western, south-western and southern sections of the Big Circle Line. The technical launching was carried out back in September — the section was tested by trains without passengers.

The BCL new section will improve the transport situation in the Khoroshevo-Mnevniki, Kuntsevo, Fili-Davydkovo, Mozhaisky, Ochakovo-Matveevskoye, Ramenki, Vernadsky Avenue, Obruchevsky, Lomonosovsky, Cheryomushki, Konkovo, Zyuzino and Nagorny districts. Their residents’ daily travel time will be reduced by 40 percent.

Three of the four stations will be interchange stations. The following interchanges will be possible: from Vorontsovskaya to Kaluzhskaya of the Kaluzhsko-Rizhskaya line, from Kakhovskaya to Sevastopolskaya of the Serpukhovsko-Timiryazevskaya line. It is projected that Novatorskaya will become an interchange station to the station of the same name of the Troitskaya metro line that is currently constructed. Opening of the new stations will be coordinated with routes of ground public transport.

BCL is the largest project in the entire history of metro construction in Moscow. The 60 kilometers long line will connect the districts of the city, the radial directions of the metro and the railway. 31 stations will operate on the BCL, and 19 of them will have interchanges to other metro lines, the Moscow Central Circle or commuter trains.
