In 2020, Moscow to take part in eight tourism trade fairs

In 2020, Moscow will take part in 8 tourism trade fairs. Seven of them will take place abroad, according to Natalya Sergunina, Deputy Mayor in the Moscow Government.

 'Such trade fairs are a perfect platform to tell about our advantages, to present Moscow as a promising travel destination. Last year, we participated in a series of fairs in Europe, Asia-Pacific and Latin America and won six awards at once. In 2020, we are going to further promoting Moscow as a tourist attraction abroad,' Natalya Sergunina said.

According to Natalya Sergunina, next year Moscow is to take part in WTM Latin America (Brazil), ITB Berlin (Germany), ITB India (India), Fitur (Spain), ITB China (China), ITB Asia (Singapore) and IFTM Top Resa (France), as well in MITT international trade fair in Moscow.

Moscow tourist products will be presented at the city booths, during road shows and highlight tours to Moscow. Apply for participation in the international trade fairs at the Moscow booth on the website.

In 2019, Russian capital participated in 8 tourism trade fairs: WTM Latin America in Brazil, ATM in the UAE, SITIF in Korea, ITE & ITE MICE and BITE in China, ITB Asia in Singapore, WTM London in the UK and IBTM World in Spain. Moscow booth designed by the Moscow City Tourism Committee has won six international awards.

At the fairs held in the Asian region, Moscow won the prize for the Best Booth Design, Best Creative Award and Audience Choice Award. At the  World Travel Market in London, Moscow won the Best Booth Design and Audience Choice Award. At the IBTM World in Barcelona, Moscow was awarded as the Best Presentation of Tourism Potential.

On 28 November, Moscow won the World Travel Awards as the World's Leading City Destination, with London, New York, Lisbon, Paris, St. Petersburg, Sydney, Rio de Janeiro and other cities listed in this category. The awarding ceremony took place in Oman.

Over the first nine months of 2019, 19.5 million tourists have visited Moscow. Citizens of Germany, Israel, Italy, China and France are the most regular Moscow visitors.

There are 1,700 hotel facilities in Moscow with average annual 77 per cent occupancy  comparable to Amsterdam, London and Paris. New Year holidays always attract a lot of visitors. During this period, 4* and 5* hotels in the centre of Moscow are 95 per cent occupied.

There are over 1,500 qualified tour guide interpreters in the Russian capital, offering tours in 26 languages.

Moscow Seasons

Since 2012, big themed festivals have been regularly held in Moscow, as part of Moscow Seasons. The earliest festival, Journey to Christmas, will run 13 December till 12 January.

In April, the city hosts charity festival Easter Gift, with the international festival and competition Moscow Spring A Cappella in May, the international festival of historical reenactment Times and Epochs in June, the urban landscape design international festival and competition Flower Jam in August, and gastronomic festival Golden Autumn in October.

In 2018, Moscow received the prestigious World Festival and Event City Award as one of the world's best cities to hold festivals and events. The award ceremony was part of the 63rd Annual Congress of the International Festivals and Events Association (IFEA). Ottawa (Canada), Sydney (Australia), Boryeong (South Korea), Taichung (Taiwan) and Philadelphia (USA) won awards, too. Before that, London, Edinburgh, Boston, Rotterdam were granted awards in this category.
