Restored artifacts of the 17-19 centuries, found last year at the house 24 in Khlebny Lane. Most of the finds are coins, fragments of stove tiles, ceramic and porcelain dishes.

Khlebny Lane is located in the central part of the city between the Arbatskyie Vorota and Nikitskyie Vorota squares. In the XVI century, there was a Povarskaya (or Kormovaya) settlement, where cooks, bakers and people of other professions who served the royal court lived. This is evidenced by the following names: Povarskaya Street (Cook), Skatyertny (Tablecloth), Stolovy (Messing), Nozhovy (Knife), Khlebny (Bread) Lanes: (until the 18 century — Khlebny (Bread) Lane was Khlebny Street).

However, after the capital was moved to St. Petersburg, the tsar's settlements fell into decay. In the 18 century, in their place, the nobility and merchants began to settle. So, Khlebny Lane was gradually built up with wooden and stone mansions, and at the end of the century — with tenement buildings. There were no industrial buildings in the lane.

"The artifacts found last year have already been studied and restored. They were cleaned of dirt and corrosion. Now a small but valuable collection of 33 items has been prepared to be transferred to the Museum of Moscow. All of them are somehow connected with the life of the citizens of the 17-19 centuries. Among them, for example, a teaspoon made of non-ferrous metal and a red ware polished jug," the Head of the Moscow City Heritage Alexey Yemelyanov said.

According to archaeologists, the iron shield on the lock cylinder is also of interest. This is a large rectangular sheet of metal measuring 27 by 18 centimeters, in the center of which there is a key hole. Below it, you can see soldered decorative rods, the ends of which are made in the form of flower buds. Locks with similar shields were often used for barns. Experts attribute this find to the end of the 17 - beginning of the 18 century.

In addition, among the artifacts there is a metal church short-handled ladle of the late 17 century. It is flat, its end is made in the form of a cross. The cross is also depicted on the surface of the handle. In addition, in the collection there is the bottom of a porcelain tea saucer of the 19 century. On it, you can see the image of the jack and the card suits - clubs, diamonds and hearts.

Archaeologists periodically find objects that preserve the memory of Moscow and its citizen’s life. Specialists study their condition and determine their value after which they decide how to save them. Often, the artifacts transfer to museums is preceded by a long period of restoration.
