Guinness World Records: Moscow metro builders set a world record

March 25

The biggest number of tunnelling machines working simultaneously on one project was recorded in Moscow. The world record was registered by Guinness World Records, as reported by Andrei Bochkaryov, Deputy Moscow Mayor in the Moscow Government for Urban Planning and Construction.

'Guinness World Records adjudicators registered a world record in Moscow for the biggest number of tunnelling boards simultaneously working on metro construction. To date, there are 23 tunnelling machines operating on various construction sites. No other city in the world has ever had so many machines working at the same time,' said Andrei Bochkaryov.

48 witnesses at 23 Moscow metro construction sites registered a world record. They were simultaneously filming all the tunnelling machines operating.

Mosinzhproekt JSC is the single operator engaged in the design and construction of new Moscow metro lines. Mars Gazizullin, Director General, pointed out that these dynamic tunnelling operations require both high level of excellence and courage of metro builders, sufficient capabilities and cutting-edge mining technologies.

‘The fact our professional accomplishments were recognised by the world community speaks for the high efficiency of the entire team of Mosinzhproekt, which has become one of the top-ranked engineering holdings in Russia over the past decade,' said Mars Gazizullin.

He also said thank you to the volunteers assisting in the world record registration.

Since 2011, the Moscow Government, together with Russian Railways JSC, has put into operation 287 km of lines, 139 stations, three extra metro lobbies, MCC and MCD, and 10 electric depos. Today, the top-priority project of the Moscow metro construction is the Big Circle Line (BCL). The 70 km long line will have 31 stations. BCL is supposed to be the world's longest metro circle line.
