Graffiti with ancient images to decorate the Kommunarskaya Line’s Akademicheskaya metro station

October 12, 2020

The Akademicheskaya metro station of the Kommunarskaya Line will feature u-shaped black structures, reminiscent of portals, and graffiti with ancient images.

“The architects have made a real enfilade on the platform, with the alternating black elements to be illuminated. The alternation of luminous and dark planes of the portals creates an expressive plasticity. The track walls will also have an interesting design: they will be decorated with ancient works of art in the graffiti technique,” said Chief Architect of Moscow Sergei Kuznetsov.

The idea involves digital printing on aluminum panels. The floors of the station will be made of light grey granite, large white panels will cover the lobby walls, and the ceiling will be decorated with slatted structures.

The station's ground entrances will be faced with polished granite. A large area will be covered by anti-vandal glazing, which will give the space a mirror effect.

The Akademicheskaya station of the Kommunarskaya Line is located at the intersection of Dmitriya  Ulyanova Street and Profsoyuznaya Street. From there passengers can change to the station of the same name on the Kaluzhsko-Rizhskaya Line. In this regard, Lobby No. 1 will undergo renovations.

The construction of the Kommunarskaya Line began in 2018. It will run from the Krymskaya station on the Moscow Central Circle to Troitsk. The new line will ease the load on the central and southern sections of the Sokolnicheskaya and Kaluzhsko-Rizhskaya metro lines and will reduce traffic on the nearby streets.
