Tourism and travels

The season of winter passenger navigation on the Moskva River started on 14 November. 10 all-season ice-class reinforced-hull ships will carry Muscovites and Moscow guests in the cold season.

'We have prepared new special trips and cruises for the winter river navigation season's anniversary, for Moscow residents and tourists to enjoy the brightest  impressions. We invite passengers to join theatrical cruises, gastronomic trips and even special New Year's voyages,' the Moscow City Tourism Committee said.

Ships operating in winter are able to run through brash ice up to 20 cm thick, with the icebreakers cutting the way in severe cold weather, when the river freezes deeper.

There will be two 2.5 hour sightseeing routes. Passengers will view the chief landmarks of the centre of Moscow: the Kremlin, St. Basil's Cathedral, Luzhniki Stadium, the main building of  Lomonosov Moscow State University, Zaryadye Park and others.

Passengers can use an audio guide with information about the attractions in six languages: Russian, English, Chinese, Spanish, French and German.

The previous passenger navigation season on the Moskva River started on 15 November 2018 and lasted until 24 April. During this time, the ships transported around 200,000 people. The new winter season celebrates its tenth anniversary.

Tours are not the only entertainment offered by ships. During the Moscow Spring A Cappella festival, passengers are invited to enjoy shows by music bands and artists. The ships also offer a splendid view of the fireworks often launched during Moscow festivals.
