Explore personal lists and filter by architectural style: Discover Moscow app updated

November 25, 2019

Discover Moscow mobile app has been updated. Now users can explore personal lists of buildings, monuments and routes, filter sites by architectural style or construction year, and view personal statistics. The updated version is already available in the App Store and Google Play, as Deputy Mayor Natalya Sergunina reported.

'Discover Moscow app has become even more attractive and functional. Now you can customise it as you wish. For example, if you take interest in avant-garde style architecture, just use a special filter to view a selection. The app can also help find museums, theatres in the neighbourhood, and much more,' said Natalya Sergunina.

There is automatic personalisation enabled by default, which means that sections display sites the user views most often.

Registered users can also adjust their home screen. To do this, click on Edit Home Screen at the bottom of the page. Non-registered users will be offered to register now. Untick Auto Selection in home screen settings to move the blocks on the screen.

Compile your own list and don't miss important events

You can set filters in any start screen block. To do this, click the filter icon and select the one you like under the block's name, and you will find sites from the Buildings category selected by architectural style, purpose, construction year, memorial value and year of their restoration. Click Sort next to the Filter to sort sites by distance or ranking. You can also choose random sorting.

Click Add Block to add a list on the home screen. For example, to add a selection of routes along Moscow parks, create a new Routes block and filter it by 'Along Parks and Estates'. Discover Moscow regularly publishes park routes, so this selection will help you not miss one more route added. Besides, you can learn more about the history and architecture of metro stations by enabling the Metro filter in the Buildings block.

A new block adds at the bottom of the screen. You can move it, rename it by clicking on the button next to it.

There is a map to easily find the sites nearby. Find it at the top of the screen, just above the lists.

'Updated Discover Moscow app has personal statistics now. In Statistics, you will find information about how many museums, building, monuments and territories you have visited, and how many routes and quests you have completed. For example, a user sets a challenge to visit about 10 Moscow sites monthly. Personal statistics will help monitor the progress,' said Sergei Shakryl, culture and tourism IT project officer of the Moscow Department of Information Technology.

Also, the app has a filter to find sites by name and the date of visiting. You have to sign in the Discover Moscow app to be able to add a site to the statistics. To do this, just tick 'I have already been here'.

Routes section displays the routes completed and their distance. Quests show the number of quest's questions and correct answers and completion time.

Discover Moscow is a joint project of the Department of Education and Science, the Cultural Heritage Department, the Department of Culture and the Department of Information Technology. Interactive guides to Moscow landmarks have descriptions of 1,800 buildings and facilities, 643 monuments, 318 museums, 192 territories, information about 207 historical figures and 98 themed walking routes.
