Drive-in theatre to open in Moscow

July 8

A free drive-in theatre will open to mark Moscow Transport Day in July. The venue has been organised by Moscow’s public transport system and will be operating at a park and ride facility near Filatov Lug metro station in the southwest of the city. Screenings will be scheduled for the times when the facility has its lowest occupancy. The theatre can accommodate up to100 cars.

The drive-in theatre will have one screening on Saturday evenings. Its repertoire includes old classics and recent premieres: Federico Fellini’s La Dolce Vita, The Gentlemen by Guy Ritchie and the programme of the Beat Film Festival.

“Over the weekend there are not as many vehicles as usual in the car park, so we decided to turn it into a drive-in theatre that can be an excellent entertainment in any weather. We plan to show 17 films from July to October. During this period about 1,700 drivers and passengers will get a chance to enjoy these free events,” reported the Press Service of the Moscow Department of Transport and Development of Road and Transport Infrastructure.

People will be able to order food and drinks during the shows via an app without having to leave their cars. There will also be raffles and contests. Prizes will be given away by project sponsors.

Booking will open at midnight on12 July on the project site. The first screening will take place on 18 July.
