‘City: Details’: modern megacity design exhibition at VDNKh

3-5 October, VDNKh's Pavilion No.75 is to host a presentation and an exhibition City: Details, with an interactive display covering 15,000 sq m. Visitors will be introduced to about 250 designs for a modern megacity, including state-of-the-art concepts of sports grounds, squares and urban art objects.

Also, you will hear landscape designers, design engineers, developers and urbanists speaking about global trends in the development of urban environment. They will share the findings of the latest research and analyse new designs of comfortable city environment in a city.

The exhibition will have three themed sections. The business program will start with the discussion 'Art Objects in the Urban Environment'. The meeting to start on 4 October, 10:00 am, will deal with the development of new centrepieces to appear in the districts after art objects are installed in squares and parks. The speakers include Peter Fink, a renowned British landscape architect and urbanist, architect Smadar Efrati, Associate Professor of the Moscow Institute of Architecture's Landscape Architecture Department Yekaterina Ozhegova, Deputy Head of the Moscow Art & Architecture Department Yelena Semenkova and other experts.

One of the exhibition's major topics is going to be hardscaping. 

'Hardscaping and Building the Neighbourhood Community' section  (4 October, 12:30 pm) will discuss how benches, street lights, stairs, fountains and sculptures influence residents' perception of the urban environment and shape the design code of a certain location.  It will also focus on how to create children's playgrounds and develop parent communities. The discussion will be attended by urbanist Pyotr Kudryavtsev, architects Dmitry Burov, Alexander Frontov, Maria Pomelova and Mikhail Belyakov, representatives of Moscow prefectures.

'My Favourite District. Private and Public' section (4 October, 02:45 pm) will deal with the issue of preserving a unique district's appearance while upgrading the infrastructure. Yelena Zelentsova, Head of the Department for Territorial Development of the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration, will be the section's moderator. Moscow's Chief Architect Sergei Kuznetsov, architects Filippo Imberti and Alexander Trukhan, the Northeastern Administrative District's prefect Alexei Belyaev, Deputy Head of the Moscow Department of Capital Improvements and Repairs Alexander Adaikin are among the speakers.

 Experts from 11 countries, including Russia, Hungary, Germany, Italy, Kazakhstan, the Netherlands, the USA, Finland and France, will join the business program.

The program will also offer concerts, film screenings and a bright light performance. Admission is free, but pre-registration on the exhibition's official website is required.
