Autumn in my neighbourhood: parks offering recreation activities

Go in for Nordic walking, learn the qigong breathing technique, try your hand at kickboxing or learn to dance salsa in the parks of the Moscow Department of Culture. Spend health-improving time in Park Pobedy on Poklonnaya Gora, Sokolniki Park, Kuzminki Park, Northern Tushino Park and other recreation areas.

"Regular open-air sports training and dancing lessons will take place in 19 parks as long as the weather allows. All classes are free, bring your good mood and sports equipment. For example, if you are going to attend a master class in yoga, you need to bring special mats," told the Press Service of Mosgorpark.

Find a detailed schedule of classes on the websites of recreation areas. In some cases, pre-registration may be required.

Learn rope tricks and play field hockey

Six parks offer sports activities for children and teenagers. So, children aged 6 to 15 are welcome to attend a martial-arts group in the small gym of the Tagansky Park's sports complex. Boxing, kickboxing and freestyle wrestling classes will take place 05:00 pm till 06:00 pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and 12:00 pm till 01:30 pm on Saturdays. Fans of intellectual games are welcome to the big hall of the Creative Arts Centre to attend Blitz chess club lessons. Children will both learn to play chess, train memory and think logically, and get acquainted with the rules of sports etiquette. Chess players meet on Tuesdays and Fridays, 05:00 pm till 06:00 pm. Young football players are invited to the Northern Tushino Park. Meteor, a local football club, has already started registering children aged 4 to 12 to the group. Training sessions will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays, 01:30 pm till 03:30 pm, on the football field near Zakharkovo Bay.

Vorontsovsky Park offers sporting events, too. On Tuesdays, 05:00 pm till 06:00 pm, the central volleyball court will offer 'Smart Jump Rope' classes to teach children aged 4 to 14 to jump rope and do tricks. On Saturdays, 09:00 am till 10:00 am, the alley between the central square and the Italian Garden will host fitness sports classes for adults.

Besides, the Yunost (Youth) children's sports school in Vorontsovsky Park is open again after the summer holidays. Children aged 9 to 13 are welcome to learn roller skating and skiing. The classes will take place on Wednesdays and Fridays, 06:00 pm till 07:00 pm.

Rink in the Park on Angarskaya Street will offer to play floorball (field hockey) until the end of September. Children aged 6 to 9 will have training sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 04:00 pm, and on Sundays from 11:00 am, players aged 10+ are welcome on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 05:00 pm and on Sundays from 12:00 pm.

On Thursdays at 08:00 pm and Sundays at 09:00 am, Wake and Run races for children aged 6+ and adults will take place in Kuzminki Park. This competition has no strict rules, so each participant is allowed to run any distance at a comfortable pace. Participants meet at the main stage.

On Saturdays and Sundays, 05:00 pm till 07:00 pm, Severnaya Square of Izmailovsky Park welcomes children aged 6 to 12 to learn roller skating. You have to bring your own skates and safety gear.

Learn salsa, zumba and breakletics

Sokolniki Park has prepared a big sports program. Dance fans of all ages are welcome in the pavilion at 5A/3 5th Luchevoi Prosek. Sign up for classes by calling +7 (926) 399-85-45.

Do breakletics in Krasnaya Presnya Park. This style combines elements of yoga, workout, fitness and pilates. Classes are held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 07:00 pm till 09:00 pm.

On Wednesdays and Fridays, 07:00 pm till 08:00 pm, Kuzminki Park offers zumba training lessons running next to the main stage. Perovsky Park invites to attend salsa lessons. 08:00 pm till 09:00 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and 10:00 am till 11:00 am on Saturdays, fans of Latin American dances will enjoy Salsation dance fitness program held on the Park's stage.

Learn Japanese and Chinese exercises

Fitness sports classes for adults run in Lianozovsky Park on Fridays, 09:00 am till 10:00 am. The meeting place is next to the Park’s administration building. Those preferring power exercises are welcome to attend fitness training sessions at the workout grounds in Izmailovsky Park on Wednesday and Friday starting from 07:30 pm. On Saturdays, you are welcome to enjoy tabata training, starting at 09:30 am. This type of exercises was invented in 1996 by the Japanese physiologist and PhD Izumi Tabata for professional athletes. Tabata training involves alternating intensive 20 s exercises with 10 s rest. The system has proved to be effective and has become popular both among professional athletes, and regular healthy lifestyle fans.

Khodynskoye Pole Park invites to go in for qigong gymnastics. In Chinese, the word 'qi' means ‘flow of energy and vitality’, and the word 'gong' means ‘work’, ‘achievement’. In other words, qigong training is a kind of meditation that allows you to stop the flow of thoughts, relax muscles and eliminate stress. Training in the Park will be conducted by a certified internationally renowned coach. The classes will start at 08:00 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Sokolniki Park will offer qigong classes, too. You are welcome on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 am till 11:00 am, to the site next to the Chess and Checkers Club.

Classes in qigong breathing, Jeet Kune Do and Tai Chi-Quan martial arts, as well as table tennis for adults have been arranged in Northern Tushino Park. Training sessions run at the Moscow Longevity pavilion next to the Colosseum site. Check the schedule and register on the Park's website. In addition, qigong breathing sessions take place every Sunday from 02:00 pm till 03:00 pm on the open-air veranda in the Bauman Garden.

On Saturdays and Sundays, 09:30 am till 11:00 am, Children's Centre of Khodynskoye Pole Park brings together yoga fans. Find the detailed information in the Park's social media.

Workout, Nordic style

Nordic walking fans are welcome in 11 Moscow parks. This sport is especially good for older citizens. According to experts, Nordic walking both strengthens muscles, trains legs, and improves heart and lungs condition, cheers up and relieves stress. It is also a good fat-burner.

— Lianozovsky Park, on Mondays and Wednesdays, from 09:00 am till 10:00 am and from 10:00 am till 11:00 am, meeting next to the Park administration building;

— Kuzminki Park, on Wednesdays and Fridays, from 10:00 am till 12:00 pm, meeting at the main stage;

— Sadovniki Park. Join the group, classes have not started yet, register by calling +7 (499) 175-33-69;

— Izmailovsky Park, on Saturdays, start at 11:00 am, meeting at the monument to Lenin;

— Park Pobedy on Poklonnaya Gora, 03:00 pm till 05:00 pm on Mondays and Fridays, 12:00 pm till 02:00 pm on Saturdays, meeting next to the synagogue;

— Vorontsovsky Park, on Saturdays, 10:00 am till 11:00 am, meeting near the stage;

— Babushkinsky Park, on Wednesdays and Fridays, 08:45 am till 10:15 am, meeting at the Green Theatre;

— Dzhamgarovsky Pond Park, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 09:00 am till 10:00 am, meeting at the dance floor;

— public garden in Olonetsky Proyezd, 10:00 am till 12:00 pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, 04:30 pm till 06:30 pm on Sundays, meeting at the central entrance.

This autumn, 10 Moscow parks have also prepared insightful and creative programs for their visitors. Listen to lectures on aeronautics, dance and cinema, start learning German and take part in an educational festival in Gorky Park, Zaryadye Park, Tsaritsyno Museum Reserve, Tagansky Park and other recreation areas. Most of the events will take place in September.
