Applications open for the Moscow Spring A Cappella contest

February 15, 2018

The Moscow Spring A Cappella international contest, to take place on 27 April‒9 May, has started accepting applications.

Anyone above 18 with at least one year of singing experience can participate.

Participants will be divided into three categories, depending on group size: from one singer, from five singers and from nine singers. Compositions in various musical styles and genres can be performed in the competitive programme, such as jazz, soul, rock, pop, blues, ethno-folk compositions, original adaptations of folk songs, popular songs by Russian and foreign 20th century composers and a cappella arrangements of classical instrumental pieces.

Applications are accepted at site. Forms can be filled out either in Russian or in English. They should contain the name of the group, the number of participants, the genre of the performance, a link to a video clip and photos of a performance. The application deadline is 6 pm Moscow time on 15 March.

The first Moscow Spring A Cappella contest took place in the spring of 2017, when 250 applications were sent in from 12 countries.  Almost 170 solo vocalists and groups from Russia, the UK, the US, Spain, Italy, France, Poland and Hungary performed about 8,000 songs for Muscovites. The musicians were judged by Russian and foreign singers and producers. In addition, the public could vote for their favourite performers online.

“Concerts were not only held at usual festival sites but also at train stations, shopping centres and even on balconies. We hope that this year singers as well as Muscovites and tourists will show even greater interest in the contest,” said Natalya Sergunina, Deputy Mayor for Economic Policy and Property and Land Relations.
