About 54 million flowers will decorate Moscow's streets, squares and garden squares this year.

"The largest and most beautiful flower beds will traditionally appear on Manezhnaya Square, in the garden square near the Bolshoi Theater, on Novy Arbat Street, Triumfalnaya Square, Kutuzovsky Prospekt and in Victory Park on Poklonnaya Gora (Worshipful Submission Hill). The total area of the city's flower beds will exceed 800 thousand square meters. Thanks to the gradual planting, they will delight Muscovites and guests of the capital until late autumn," Pyotr Biryukov, Moscow Deputy Mayor for Housing and Utilities and Landscaping told in the Moscow Government.

By the May holidays, 12 million tulips will come to blossom in the capital, the bulbs of which were planted last fall on a total area of more than 200 thousand square meters.

The planting of about four million viola seedlings has begun, and in late May - early June, 35 million annuals will appear in Moscow. Then, depending on the weather, the planting of more than 1.2 million perennial flowers will continue, among which roses and peonies predominate.

The concept of thematic flowerbeds will be dedicated to the Year of Science and Technology. Seedlings will be planted in the form of the inscriptions Science and Technology, the colors will depict the figures of DNA, atoms and gears. This is how the flower beds will be decorated along Rublevskoye and Varshavskoye Highways, on Gagarina Square, at the intersection of Nikoloyamskaya Embankment with Zemlyanoy Val Street.

All flower seedlings for the city are grown in greenhouses of State-Financed Institution ‘Ozeleneniye’.

"The number and range of plants are determined at the flower beds design stage in accordance with the concept and artistic solution of flower decoration, - Pyotr Biryukov noted, - In this case, not only the appearance of the plants is taken into account but also their quality - all varieties are adapted to the climatic conditions of Moscow and are hypoallergenic."
