200 participants of the Moscow Championship of professional skills among disabled people and people with disabilities Abilimpics-2020 got a job after the competition.

The championship helps to be employed and socialized. Today its participants work as cooks, teachers, hairdressers, plumbers, IT-specialists, and system administrators in the best companies in the city.

“Abilimpics is both a championship of professional skills and an opportunity to meet potential employers, show competencies, and find a good job. And for employers it is a chance to see successful people who strive to be the best and achieve success in their business. Thanks to cooperation with large companies and the Moscow employment service, the participants make their dreams come true and choose their future profession where they improve and develop themselves,” said Alexandra Alexandrova, first deputy head of the Moscow Department of Labor and Social Protection.

Companies’ representatives give the expert assessment of professional competencies, they evaluate the skills and potential abilities of participants, and invite them to a work position or traineeship.

Fifteen participants of Abilimpics work at the shoe factory as shoe assemblers — they all competed in the “Shoe repair” competence. Two Abilimpics-2020 participants got a job in a bank and are successful as data processing specialists. Muscovite Maxim Vasiliev participated in the “Software Development” competence and now he works as IT-specialist in an IT holding company, and Daniil Korsakov competed in the “Photographer-reporter” competence. After the championship the young man found himself in the profession of a lighting operator on television.

A new competence will be presented at the championship this year — “Electric drive and automation”. It was initiated by a large automobile company: the idea of cooperating with Abilimpics came to the employer after visiting the championship. The company has now employees with disabilities who show good results, and in connection with expanding the scope of work, specialists in electric drive and automation are needed for the technical department. The company hopes to find employees among the upcoming championship participants.

For the seventh year in a row, the professional skills competitions are held by the Moscow Regional Center for the Development of the Abilimpics Movement created on the basis of “The Professional” Training Center supported by the Moscow Department of Labor and Social Protection together with the Department of Education and Science.

“Abilimpics” is an international movement that holds professional skills competitions for people with disabilities. Its purpose is to promote employment. The Abilimpics championships are held annually, they unite millions of people around the world and change traditional views on the abilities of physically challenged people.
