11th FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Starts in Moscow

The opening of the 11th FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup took place at the Luzhniki Stadium.

“I am sincerely glad to welcome the participants and guests of the Beach Soccer World Cup in Russia, in Moscow. Our country is hosting such a tournament for the first time, and we hope that the debut will be worthy. After all, Russia has vast experience in hosting major sports events, including the 2018 FIFA World Cup, which was recognized the best in history by athletes, fans and FIFA itself. Our status of responsible members of the world football community interested in the development of sports also stimulates us to create all the necessary conditions for the upcoming competitions,” Russian President Vladimir Putin noted in a video message to the participants of the championship.

According to him, Russian leadership highly appreciated the decision of FIFA to grant the holding of prestigious championship in Russia and the personal attitude of its president, who recently noted that the beach soccer championship in Moscow would be unforgettable.

“The time has come for an incredible show, since Russia is once again in the very center of attention of the world civil society on the occasion of a global level tournament. This time it is the Beach Soccer World Cup with its great atmosphere, fast tempo and many exciting moments. And all this is happening here in Moscow, with cordial hosts and our good friends after the resounding success of the unforgettable 2018 football championship in Russia, the best in history. This tournament has already visited four continents, and now teams from six confederations have arrived in Russia and are ready to present us great show,” emphasized Gianni Infantino, President of the International Football Federation.

He thanked Vladimir Putin for his personal involvement and the Russian Football Union headed by Alexander Dyukov for dedication and hard work during these difficult times and wished this Beach Soccer World Cup to be an unforgettable event for Russia and the whole world.

Vladimir Putin noted that special attention was paid not only to safety measures when organizing the competition, but also to protecting the health of athletes and spectators, minimizing the risks associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. A special regime will operate on the territory of Luzhniki.

The FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup runs until 29 August. A temporary stadium for five thousand spectators was erected especially for it in Luzhniki. Russia is hosting this kind of sports event for the first time. 16 teams will take part in the tournament. Moscow will host 32 games.
