About the festival

The Flower Jam Festival’s wide-ranging program will run from August 22 to September 8. Among the entertainment will be a Flower Ball and Flower Show, cooking contests, a designer art-market, a journey to Wonderland with Lewis Carroll’s characters, music, puppet show, and jazz days, as well as sports exhibitions and themed markets! And, of course, you can visit the dozens of extraordinary gardens that have popped up all over the city for the festival’s landscape design contest.

Festival venues are open from 11am to 9pm weekdays, and 10am to 10pm on weekends.

Large Exhibition Garden
Large exhibition gardens cover an area of 200-400 square meters. They are meant to attract people to places where they can quietly rest and reflect amidst green plants. These gardens also fulfill an extremely important role by attracting insects that help maintain the metropolis’ fragile ecological balance.

Mid-Sized gardens of 70-100 square meters are created to beautify Moscow’s streets, squares, and parks, becoming new landmarks and meeting points.

These gardens of 30-50 square meters not only add colorful accents to city streets, but also provide a place to relax, with chairs, benches, and maybe even deck chairs!

Landscape Design for Social Areas
Entries in this category feature sensory gardens, creative spaces, and playgrounds (from 50 to 100 square meters) designed for the grounds of hospitals, schools, and orphanages. Apart from their aesthetic and ecological functions, they actually play a therapeutic role!

The Competition of Student Projects
The contest is very important to students specializing in landscape architecture, as it provides them with the opportunity to receive peer reviews from experienced designers and become part of Moscow’s ‘green transformation’, which is already well under way. Students create gardens of 50-100 square meters for the festival.

September 8: Amateur Gardening Competition
One of the main events of Moscow City Day holiday will be an amateur competition for allfans of flowers and urban gardens! Everybody is welcome to join and create his or her own landsape project. The organizers will provide you with all you need to make flower garden, and winners will be awaited by valuable prizes and presents!

Landscape designer, founder of Matthew Childs Design Studio. Multiple prize winner of prestigious garden exhibitions in UK, Russia, and Turkey including the highest awards of the RHS Exhibitions. Judge and head of the jury at international garden festivals.
James Hitchmough (United Kingdom)
Professor, leading specialist in the field of ecological gardening in the UK, head of the Department of Landscape Architecture at the University of Sheffield. Included in the top 10 landscape designers in the UK. Author of the best-selling book on urban landscape architecture. Landscape design consultant for London Olympic Park.
Peter Korn (Sweden)
A nursery owner, gardener and designer at Klinta Trädgård and Peter Korns Trädgård. Peter has designed a large number of landscape projects in Sweden, including the Botanical Garden in Gothenburg, numerous perennial flower beds, roof gardens, green walls, and rain gardens.
Natalya Borisova (Russia)
Master of Landscape Architecture, founder of NB-Garden landscape workshop, multiple award winner of many show gardens competitions. Member of the jury of Russian and international garden competitions.
