‘Oil’ as Art at the Tretyakov Gallery

Oil has taken on an almost mythical meaning in today’s world, and this is especially true in Russia. Famous artist Nikolay Nasedkin (b. 1954) creates art with oil in order to rethink the significance of petroleum in the country’s history. ‘Nikolay Nasedkin. Oil. A Personal Story’ reflects the artist’s personal history during the 10 years he’s been using the black gold as a medium. The project also strives to show the interaction between personal and global narratives. The exhibition features large-scale ‘oil’ panels and columns, works of art, and the artist’s video dairies. You’ll also find texts about oil relating to political and social life in the USSR and modern Russia.

Tickets are available at the Tretyakov Gallery’s official website.
