Eugene Onegin at Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Singing Centre

Eugene Onegin opera is the eighth production in the Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Singing Centre's repertoire. According to critics and the music community, this performance is one of the best modern interpretations of this piece, distinguished by a combination of reverent attitude to classical traditions, mindful interpretation of musical and literary content and modern scenography.

At the time, Pyotr Tchaikovsky commissioned the first opera performance to young singers from the Moscow Conservatory; following the tradition, young soloists of the Opera Singing Centre are to be the chief opera characters.

Galina Vishnevskaya said Eugene Onegin was one of her most favourite works. "It was Tatiana who started my career at the Bolshoi Theatre, and crowned it at the Opéra de Paris. Presently, my students perform Tchaikovsky's music, and I'm happy I can pass on my love for this great Master to them. Tchaikovsky modestly called Eugene Onegin as Lyrical Scenes, since there are no traditional stage effects and its performance requires highest possible sincerity and simplicity," the singer recalled.
